Salvaged Title. This vehicle was never in a wreck, but was part of a bulk purchase that a Salvage truck yard made. But I do have the pink slip and had no trouble getting it registered/insured when I purchased it.
Registered as a Motorhome. I went through the necessary steps to get it registered as a Motorhome in CA.
Remanufactured Engine. The Body has 273,362 miles on it, but the engine was remanufactured around 30,000 miles ago, so the engine itself is young.
Before the Salvage yard bought it, it was owned by a retirement center in Upland, CA. The Carfax shows that it was really well taken care of and lightly driven for many years.
I replaced the alternator and serpentine belts about 1,000 miles ago.
Magnetic Braking. There is a Telma Magnetic Braking System that is pretty awesome. It uses magnets to help extend the life of the brake pads, as well as provide great braking speed and distance. The magnets reverse polarity when the brake is disengaged and help with acceleration as well.
Wood Conversion. I used some very nice white pine tongue and groove for most of the conversion. Did all of the work myself, and built in a few “secret” storage compartments.
The conversion is very simple as far as electrical/plumbing. I have a gravity fed water system for the kitchen sink. No electrical work, I have always used battery powered or solar powered lights and a small electric generator for charging devices.
Large storage area in the back that I call the garage. It is about 5’ X 8’ and has stored all sorts of tools and adventure gear over the years, including a large dirt bike (Honda CR 250). Also large storage space under the bed as well as under the sink/counter.
Has a wood burning stove that I haven’t permanently installed, so it could easily be installed or removed depending on what you wanted to use for heat.
Tall Ceiling. I chose this style bus partly because of the tall ceiling. Someone 6’ 3” can comfortably walk around in it, which has proved to be quite nice.
Full Size Bed. Another nice feature is the full size bed. It is a very comfortable mattress and it is nice to be able to sleep 2 people comfortably. I have mounts for hanging a hammock up inside as well.
I bought this bus just about 3 years ago, stripped it down and built it out all by myself. I’ve definitely been very proud of the work and have loved traveling the West Coast in it, but it is time to downsize to something smaller. It is totally liveable as is, but it could also use quite a bit of work to be “fully converted”. Perfect for someone who wants to hit the road immediately, or someone who wants to do some further customization and converting! I wanted to add solar and finish installing the wood burning stove, but never got around to it.
Handles great! Very easy to drive for it’s size, the magnetic braking system is a big plus, it also has overdrive for larger grades or when hauling extra weight.
AC/Heat work, but not very well. Could use a tune-up.
There is some slight cosmetic damage. I never got around to getting a paint job, so it still looks like a retirement center bus, but that has actually proved useful when I’ve needed to be stealth in cities or neighborhoods. Part of each tail light is busted, but there are multiple lights that still work on each side so it is legal to drive.
There is a wheelchair lift that I still have hooked up. It needs a new battery, but other than that it works great. I can remove it if you don’t want it. I have used it a handful of times to lift heavy items into the “garage”. Mostly used it for the dirt bike.
