2002 GMC Savanna 3500
V8 6.5L Turbo Diesel
206 000 Miles
New rebuilt AAMCO Transmission
My Girlfriend and I purchased the bus Jan 1st of 2017 from a seller located in inland Los Angeles. It had been well looked after by the school who owned it, never seen any beach, mountain climb, snow or much rain so was in perfect condition with zero rust. We stripped it down from a standard school bus and did the conversion ourselves in May of the same year.
We have spent the summer through to winter periods of the last 2 years living and travelling throughout California, Nevada and Baja Mexico.
It is a perfect size bus that drives easy like a van with a normal drivers license and fits perfectly in a standard parking space.
The Turbo Diesel engine has plenty of power to get you moving to highway speeds, can easily cruise at 70-75mph but i usually like to cruise at 55-65pmh. Fuel economy ranges anywhere from 12-15 mpg depending on how its driven or how loaded up you are. Way more fuel economic than any gas/petrol bus you will find. Diesel engines are renowned for lasting forever and can easily make 500k + miles so its not even half way yet.
I had no plans on selling the bus and was preparing it for a big trip with Mexico, Central America & South America in mind and really didn't want any hassles mechanically so i had the transmission rebuilt, a lot of vehicles like buses will start to have transmission issues past 200k miles. So i bit the bullet and spent $5k and had a new transmission by AAMCO installed. I put a fair bit of money into it recently with some other maintenance and upgrades so she is all ready to roll!
Unfortunately a few things have popped up back home so ive got to sell the bus which im pretty bummed about, but im happy to pass her onto someone else for them to enjoy.
Recently this November i spent $6000+ on
A new rebuilt Transmission through AAMCO that has a nationwide warranty!
New Battery (2 year warranty)
New front tires + spare rim
New front brakes pads & rotors
New Exterior paint job with Cedar wood side paneling
It has a GVWR of 10,000lbs( ive seen people modify the rear bumper and carry 2 snow skis with no hassle!) The dual rear wheels make it handle off road really well, Ive been quite surprised with the places ive been able to take the bus that my friends vans havn't been able to make it to.
Im an electrician by trade back in Australia so all the work has been done with construction knowledge. The bus was fully stripped and all walls were insulated prior to the fit out which definitely helps in hot/cold climates.
Ample room for 2 people living comfortably with a full size double mattress and foam topper that is extremely comfortable (I'm 6'4 and have plenty of room bed wise, as well as being able to stand tall in the centre of the bus).
Full operating kitchen with running water via 12v pump/10 gallon water storage tank(mounted underneath) sink, fridge/freezer(90 Watt 120v) 2 burner propane cooker, fire extinguisher
4 person diner booth style table and seating arrangement (Original re-upholstered bus seats with 4 seats belts)
Handmade curtains throughout ranging from rail, magnet and velcro attachment.
300 Watt Renogy solar power system/30A charge controller/1500 watt inverter/250 amp hour deep cycle battery storage. The solar runs the 90watt 120v ac fridge/freezer, 12v water pump and plenty of lighting fixtures and power outlets throughout the bus.
There are huge amounts of storage throughout the bus with only half of it seen in the photos, as well as a hidden safe.
Dines 4 people comfortably, transports 5 people with seat belts and can easily have 6-7 people hanging out comfortably to watch a movie on the projector screen at night. Also comes with a custom made mattress that can be rolled out on the floor incase you have a 3rd party stay.
There is a shade awning attached which folds out easy and is perfect for camping or just days at the beach.
Air Conditioning (120v AC) unit is stored under the bed which fits perfectly in the emergency window with a bracket, you can power it by the Honda EU2200i silent 2200 Watt Inverter Generator which is also included if you dont have access to electricity. Most of the time i just put the windows down and use the square electric fan that fits in the emergency window, the only time we ever needed the Air Con was during the 120F degree days at Burning Man.
There is so much included but this is off the top of my head -
kitchen equipment (cast iron pans/pots/cups/plates/bowls/utensils/ etc)
Large electric 120v fan
Small electric 120v fan
Air Conditioner 120V
2200W Honda silent generator (these are worth $1000)
electric space heater
rechargeable battery vacuum
1000w Nutri - Bullet blender
mini Projector w/ screen & HDMI cord for laptop streaming
3 in 1 - CAT Professional Power Station With Jump Starter & Compressor
2 X 5 Gallon jerry cans
Tie down straps x 10
Camping chairs x 2
Verizon Wifi hotspot
12 inch JVC subwoofer and Alpine amplifier that i never installed included aswell.
Probably a few things ive missed but you get the idea, this bus is well equipped and ready to hit the road.
Everything on the bus is in perfect working order, expect for the ABS sensor which could be replaced ($90 part)
Serious buyers only please, i feel confident that the first person to see it that is looking for a vehicle like this will buy it. I have plenty more photos available including the construction process. Best vehicle ive ever owned, and so much potential to improve it with plenty of room to install more storage like roof racks, cabinets etc. Regretful sale..
